• RENTAL ASSISTANCE

    • Housing
      The Authority owns and manages 834 units of assisted public housing in six developments, including two scattered site single family homeownership programs.  The Authority also owns and manages three non-public housing developments consisting of 98 units.

    • Section 8
      The Authority provided rental assistance to 1,710 families through the Section 8 Program.  Eligible families seek rental housing on the open market, paying up to 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities.   The rent difference is paid to landlords through the Authority by a HUD subsidy.   During 1999, Housing Payments totaled in excess of $8 million.

       

  • HOUSING FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS

    • Housing for the Homeless
      HRHA has committed funds to Hampton Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions (HELP) over the past few years to provide housing for the homeless.  To date, HELP has acquired and rehabilitated four houses and has been awarded $100,000 to rehabilitate transitional housing they currently own.  HELP was awarded and has expended $5,000 in Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDO) operating funds. 

    • Congregate Housing
      The Authority owns two facilities that provide affordable congregate housing for up to 47 developmentally disabled adults.   Programs for the residents are coordinated through the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board.
